ACT I
Our story begins with Joker announcing to the villagers of Castleburg that the Queen,
after long awaiting has had a baby….
It’s A Girl!  The castle chefs Taste and Tart are
working on making sure the food is just perfect for the Christening.  They are looking
forward to hearing what gifts the 4 local fairies will give to new baby, who still doesn’t
have a name, but are afraid that the mean witch, Esmeralda will invite herself to the
event.
The next scene opens on the
Christening and the King and Queen
decide to name their baby girl beauty.
When the villagers applaud the
decision, baby Beauty begins to cry so
her Nanny sings a lullaby to calm her,
Sleeping Beauty.  The fairies, Leafy,
Flake, and Sunny all give their gifts to
baby Beauty when suddenly Esmeralda
appears.  She is most upset by not
being invited and despite the Queen’s
best efforts to calm her, Esmeralda
gives Beauty a curse that will cause her
to pick her finger on a spindle and die
on her 16th birthday.  Esmeralda
disappears.  The King and Queen
desperate to protect their little girl ask
Daisy, who has yet to give her gift if she
can help.  Daisy changes the curse,
instead of Beauty dying when her finger
is pricked, instead she will fall into a
deep sleep.  If the kiss of her true love
doesn’t wake her she will die.  The
King then banishes all spindles in the
kingdom.  All the fairies and Taste and
Tart vow to protect her from harm.  The
villagers sing,
Sleeping Beauty
Reprise.
The Faries, Taste and Tart sing a song to show how
Beauty has grown into a woman,
Skipping Thru The
Years.
It is now 16 years later.  The scene opens in the
palace kitchen where Beauty is helping Taste and Tart
get ready for her 16th Birthday Ball,
Chop, Dice and
Slice
.  Just then Joker enters frantically looking for
Beauty, Taste and Tart tell Joker that they hadn’t seen her
in a while.  Joker exits as Beauty appears from behind the
cooks.   Beauty is excited to finally meet her betrothed,
but really wised that she could go out beyond the palace
walls to meet her people.  Taste and Tart remind her that
everyone is just trying to protect her.  They send her back
up to the Tower to the fairies.  When Beauty arrives in the
Tower she is met by Daisy who is furious.  They other
fairies remind Beauty that the day has finally come. She
will meet the man she will marry.  Beauty and the Fairies
sing,
I Wonder What It’s Like.    The next scene is
outside the Palace walls where Beauty has escaped from
the watchful eyes of the fairies.  She is greeted warmly by
the villagers, but she doesn’t tell them that she is the
princess.  They show her the song that they are
performing for the princess tonight at the Birthday Ball,
Birthday Gavot. Just then two men enter the stage
looking for the Castle. One is an arrogant Prince Charles,
the Charming; the other is a confidant, Lord Byron who
befriends Beauty.
Back at the castle the King is pacing worried about his
daughter.  When Beauty enters the Queen tells her that
she made both she and her father worry.  The Queen
goes on to tell her daughter that she will be meeting
her new husband to be, Prince Charles, the Charming.
Beauty feels that Byron is her only true love
When I
Close My Eyes
.
The Birthday Ball begins, but Beauty is late.  When she
finally arrives, the King and Queen think that Beauty
and Charles should dance together.  While they dance,
Charles tells Beauty that she reminds him of an
arrogant peasant girl he met that day.  Beauty realizing
he is talking about her storms out and Charles is left
wondering why.
Act II opens with Charles lamenting over the fact
that he doesn't understand Beauty.  "I mean who
couldn't love ME?"  Byron is forced to listen but is
thinking about Beauty as he looks at the flower she
gave to him.
The Beautiful Beauty
Beauty is left crying in the tower when her Nanny
comes in and hands her a note from Lord Byron
apologizing for Charles and letting her know she
will always be his Beauty.  While in tears,
Esmeralda enters the tower.  She comforts
Beauty telling her that she is a villager and while
she missed the party would like to give her a gift.
Beauty is taken back and loves her new
spindle.  When she goes to try it for the first time,
she pricks her finger just as her parents rush into
the room.  Esmeralda laughs realizing she has
won!  It is several years later, Lord Byron and
Prince Charles are traveling when they cross
back into the town of Castleburg where they
meet up with the Joker, Taste and Tart.  The
three tell the Prince and Byron about what
happens to their sweet Beauty.  Byron tells
Charles that his kiss must be the kiss of true
love!  The group rushes them to the castle to
save the day!
Once there, Charles kisses beauty only to see that
she remains asleep.  Esmeralda laughs and sings

That's How the Cookie Crumbles
 Daisy gets and
idea that maybe Byron should try and kiss Beauty.
Byron asks for the King's approval and then sings to
Beauty,
When I Close My Eyes Reprise.
Beauty wakes up as Byron kisses her and the
Kingdom rejoices.
